Every good society starts with someone who cares too much about getting it right. For Chris, that meant years spent in the kitchens of The Fat Duck and The Hand and Flowers — learning, at the highest level, exactly what it takes to make a plate of food unforgettable. And then, quietly, deciding that wasn't quite the point. So he set out to build something else entirely: proper food, cooked properly, accessible to everyone.

The road here wasn't a straight line. Through lockdown, Chris and Beckie ran two kitchens at once — Sunday roasts delivered door to door as Roast Wokingham, and burgers through the week under the name Bear's Burgers and Chicken. When the world opened back up, so did something new: a modest trader's tent at the markets in May 2024, and The Burger Society was born. A guest slot at Blue Collar Corner turned into a permanent home, and this year, the family grew again with the arrival of the food truck, Jim Burgerac.

In these days, it's very much a husband-and-wife affair: Beckie behind the scenes, and Chris cooking up a storm.
